Johns Creek – Karli Barnett of Johns Creek won the title of “America’s Teen” in Beauties of America’s National Pageant held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Aug. 15.

This prestigious pageant has young women from all over the country competing on many levels. Karli also won the Fitness Award and the Achievement Award, which honored her leadership and achievements in academics, as well as her service involvement in her community and the state.

Karli is a Senior at Mt. Pisgah Christian School, and is a member of the National High School Scholars, and a recipient of both the Georgia Merit Award and the U.S. National Leadership & Service Award. She feels very blessed to be an ambassador for young women and wants to encourage them to use their unique gifts and to pursue their goals. Karli would like to thank several companies in her town for their support, including: North Point Training, Kai Medical Salon, Pro Alterations, and Wolf Camera in Duluth.

Private Wedding Shower for Carol Lee

Carol’s sister(Estelle Lee) and very close friends (Ju Ha, Jenny Lee, Karyn Pak) celebrated her upcoming wedding by having a private wedding shower at kai – the medical spa.  They each received customized facials and massages, had the whole spa to themselves with their own party music, drank white wine and ate cheese, crackers and delicious red grapes.  They wore a cozy bath robe and choice of slippers.  It was a fun time by all!  See comments below…

I was in the Johns Creek store on Thursday and as I was getting ready to leave the store , I saw a lady dancing at the check out counter. I approached her and introduced myself and told her that she looks like she is having fun.

I loved her response back to me, “I am in my happy place when I come here!”

I asked her if it was okay to quote her and put her on our website. She was more than happy to oblige. Here is a picture of Elizabeth in her happy state of mind…There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone so happy that it makes them dance! And if kai can be a part of that, then we are achieving our goal!

Sarah Rice celebrated her 16th birthday this past Saturday at kai – the medical spa. Sarah and her 8 friends were so much fun! Her mom had seen the kai article about the teen spa diva party in the Points North magazine this past spring and when it was time to plan her birthday party, they called kai. They both received a tour of the spa and selected the services that they wanted to receive. They chose to get facials, massages, manicures and mineral make-up lessons. They had the whole spa to themselves and danced to their favorite tunes from their ipod. Here are their comments from the spa journal entries:

Much of the damage that we may experience today was done long ago, in the days we thought it was a good idea to sunbathe slathered in baby oil (really now, who ever came up with that concept???) Even unknowingly we as small children were subjecting ourselves to relentless harmful Ultraviolet rays because, although I know my mother truly loved and cared for me, they just didn’t have today’s information and technology on sunscreen and skin protection products back then. Parents and caretakers did the best they could, with the products which were available on a much more limited market. On the brightest of summer days in the middle of July, I recall a time or two wherein my best intended protection and advice from mom was, “Wear your white t-shirt if you’re going to be swimming in the pool!” Ouch!

Today, we can spend all kinds of money to minimize and reverse the damage the sun has done to our skin over time. It is important though to understand the difference between UV light.

UVA rays affect the skin at a deeper level than UVB rays, reaching through the epidermis and the dermis to the hypodermis where connective tissues and blood vessels are located. UVA activates the melanin of the epidermis causing changes in pigmentation as well as loss of elasticity of the skin, which contributes to premature aging of the skin, particularly wrinkling, sagging and dark sun-spotting.

UVB rays predominantly affect the epidermis causing sunburns, blistering and redness of the skin. The melanin of the epidermis is activated with UVB just as UVA, but the effects last longer, with pigmentation continuing in excess of 24 hours.

I am thrilled to be able to carry several lines of skin care products which address both UV protection and skin renewal.

I have been client of kai for the past four years prior to joining the management team in April, 2009. I am the lead medical esthetician at kai – the medical spa in Johns Creek. I have had problems with my left wrist for years. I’d had a previous injury to the area and have had issues since. In my profession, your hands are your livelihood and dealing with pain and swelling on a daily basis was getting to be a problem. I spoke to our acupuncturist, Mark Schwartz about my wrist and all the problems it had been giving me. He suggested I have a session with him to try to alleviate the pain and discomfort I was experiencing. I had an hour session, which he focused on my wrist and also some relaxation. I got off the table and literally felt like I was floating…I couldn’t even feel my wrist!!! Over the next few weeks, my wrist started to feel better and better, swelling was subsiding and the pain was virtually gone. I am now about 3 months post treatment and have absolutely no problems with my wrist…no pain…no swelling…amazing!!!
